What is Stringify?

Stringify is a free, privacy-first web application that converts photographs into circular thread art patterns by computing optimal nail-to-nail winding sequence paths.

Is Stringify completely free?

Yes. The web generator, template maker, PDF manual generator, and SVG vector exports are 100% free with no sign-ups or subscriptions.

Are my photos kept private?

Yes. All image processing runs locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your uploaded images are never uploaded to or stored on any server.

Crafting & Materials Questions

What board should I use?

We recommend a 50cm or 60cm diameter circular board of Birch Plywood (12–18mm thick) or MDF. Paint it matte white or matte black before hammering nails.

What nails work best?

Use 1.25" (32mm) wire nails with small heads (brad nails / panel pins), gauge 16 or 17.

What thread should I buy?

100% Polyester sewing thread (size 40 or 50) is recommended for portraits because of its high tensile strength and smooth glide over steel nails.
